Personal and Training Information

I will tell you about myself. Training dogs is kind of a hobby for me. I have been in Law Enforcement for over 7 years. Hunting has always been a part of my life. I also like to compete in Dock Dog events, it is a lot of fun. In the future I plan on competing in field trials and hunt tests.

Training

Puppy head start

Puppies are started on basic obedience, to walk at heal, and sit on a leash. They will be introduced to retrieving on both land and water. This may be their first exposure to water and swimming. I also introduce them to retrieving birds and expose them to gunshot.  After this training is done, I will go over this with the owner.  Training early makes the advanced training easier.

Obedience training

Obedience training is key to make you dog manageable and responsive to commands. An obedient dog is a joy to own and a excellent family companion.  Obedience training does not change the nature of the dog or address behaviors such as aggression, excessive barking, digging or housebreaking. Having a dog that will follow basic commands will make it easier on you and your dog.

Gun dog training

In this program I teach the basics of waterfowl and upland hunting, and obedience. It is my objective that by the end of the program, the dog will go out and hunt up a bird that he/she can see fall, and retrieve it to hand. The dog will also be started on quartering, flushing and retrieving for upland birds, and learn the basic obedience commands - heel (on and off leash), sit, stay, down, kennel up and come when called. I will even train your dog to jump off a dock, maybe you will want to compete in a dock dog event.

During this training the dogs will learn their basic obedience, to hold and walk with a bumper, and be force trained to pick up the bumper on command. They are introduced to the gun and learn to retrieve a bird, and deliver it to hand, in the heel position. I also teach proper water delivery, to come up out of the water, sit, and deliver the bird to hand, before shaking off. At any time of the training, if I am not satisfied with your dog's progress, I will call you to come observe and you can decide if you want to continue your dog's training.
